Buddies Program

Buddies Program at Ogden

Ogden's Buddies Program is part of our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program. Partnering every student with a buddy from another grade level is one of the strategies we use at our school to intentionally build a caring school community.

Buddies - Younger

Meeting with their older buddies on a monthly basis gives younger students real opportunities to practice both academic and social-emotional skills. Younger students benefit by:
--Receiving one-on-one attention
--Feeling part of an extended family
--Feeling more comfortable around older children
--Learning from an older role model
--Getting help to participate in challenging activities
--Practicing important language and thinking skills
--Having fun

Buddies - Older

Younger buddies give older students real opportunities to practice both academic and social-emotional skills. Older students benefit by:
--Experiencing themselves as responsible
--Experiencing themselves as caring
--Contributing toward the welfare of others
--Feeling important and appreciated in someone else’s life
--Drawing on their own experiences in guiding others
--Making social connections and fitting in
--Experiencing themselves as learners
--Gaining insight into the challenges of being a teacher
--Having fun

Buddy activities are frequently reviewed in each grade level’s newsletter distributed either weekly or monthly.
